A few people have asked about my equipment and my chosen method of print production. I hope the information below provides some of the answers.
About the images
For me, photography is all about capturing those magical combinations of light, colour and texture that transform everyday sights into something special. The image I want is there in my minds eye before I ever set up the camera and the skill is in working out how to achieve it. Endless patience and a high tolerance threshold for all the discomforts that our changeable climate can throw at us are definite advantages.
I take most of my photographs with a Nikon D700 and a selection of Zeiss fixed focus lenses. A tripod, a trusty light meter and some neutral density graduated filters complete the kit that I usually cart around.
About the prints
Over the past couple of years, I have exhibited prints of my images in a number of local exhibitions. I have found that the giclée printing method on acid free, fine art paper gives me the quality of print that I am looking for.
Giclée (pronounced zhee-CLAY) are high-resolution, high-fidelity prints of astonishing quality and as such have been widely embraced by major museums, galleries, publishers and artists alike. Giclée are individually printed using very sophisticated inkjet printers. These printers utilise multiple CMYK cartridges (between 6 and 12) of “archival”, fade resistant, pigment inks. Provided the print is displayed in suitable conditions, it can be expected to have similar longevity to a watercolour painting.
It would be prohibitively expensive to have prints made of all the images on this site on the off chance that someone might like to buy them. However expressions of interest can be made via the contacts page and are always welcome.
Exhibitions
I have exhibited in the following annual events for the past couple of years:
Fossoway Open Exhibition, Crook of Devon (March)
Dollar Art Society Annual Exhibition, Dollar (May)
Portmoak Festival, Kinesswood (June)
In July 2010, I was delighted to share exhibition space with my good friend, Angela Heidemann, at Luigino's Italian Restaurant in Falkland.
In September 2010 I joined forces with my friends Angela Heidemann and Karen Heriot (see links) to take part in Perthshire Open Studios. Angela converted most of her house into exhibition space for our eclectic mix of printmaking, jewellery and photography. We welcomed many visitors during a very successful exhibition and look forward to seeing them again at next year’s event.
News:
Perthshire Open Studios is just around the corner! From 3-11 September I will be exhibiting with my good friends Angela Heidemann and Karen Heriot (see links). Angela is opening up her lovely home as gallery space and we all look forward to welcoming you. Please come along to Eildon, Main Street, Crook of Devon and browse through our selection of Crafts, Jewellery, Painting, Photography and Printmaking.
Greetings cards
I have found a fantastic printer, Cornflower Ltd, to print some of my images as high quality greetings cards. Initially I have had ten different cards made. The cards, which have been left blank inside, each have a title / verse printed on the back (composed by my lovely daughter, Gail).

The cards are available now in 'The Flower Room', Dollar and from www.artistpublishers.com. For a closer look, please click on the 'Greetings Cards' tab.
